I shared my daytime skincare routine a couple of weeks ago after a ton of requests, so here’s the nighttime version. I will preface this and say that although this seems long and complicated, it really takes me less than 5 minutes, but it’s 5 minutes I make sure to dedicate each night. I also said this in my daytime skincare post, but I really make sure to listen to my skin. I don’t necessarily do this EXACT same routine every single night — I might sub a product for something else my skin is needing that day (more on that below) but on a good day, this is the list of products I use!
STEP ONE: REMOVE EYE MAKEUP WITH MICELLAR WATER
I don’t always need to double cleanse here, but when I layer on this mascara with this one (my lashes look so long with this combo) but it’s a pain to remove. I like to break up the mascara by using a little bit of micellar water and a cotton pad — this one is amazing for sensitive skin! I also use this on its own during the summer months where I wear a little less makeup or when I just need a skin refresh!
STEP TWO: CLEANSE WITH BALM
I have tried a few different cleansing balms and there’s nothing quite like the Elemis Pro Collagen balm — it’s super rich and helps take off makeup without stripping the skin of hydration, it literally melts the makeup off your face and feels like butter! I’ve noticed that the less soap I use on my face, the better my skin is (I have extremely dry skin naturally). I put about a quarter sized amount of the balm in my palms and rub together before rubbing on my face and neck — it starts to dissolve the makeup instantly. I then rinse my face with warm water and pat dry with a hand towel.
STEP THREE: ANTI-OXYDANT SERUM
I’ve been using this SkinCeuticals Resveratrol BE serum since 2017 — it’s essentially my nighttime anti-aging serum that contains pure vitamin E. It also helps build back skin’s firmness and helps with hyperpigmentation. I seriously look forward to putting this on my face each night because my skin just immediately soaks it up!
STEP FOUR: hyaluronic acid
This is what I like to call my FILLER IN A BOTTLE. Hyaluronic Acid is supposed to help with plumpness and hydration and amplifies what your moisturizer will do next. It also allows the moisturizer to hydrate your skin for longer — so it’s great to apply before that step! I can almost notice immediately upon applying that it plumps my skin and makes my face look so refreshed and more youthful. If my skin is feeling congestion or doesn’t need extra hydration, I’ll skip this step, but especially during the winter months, this is a must!
STEP FIVE: EYE CREAM
This is my DOES IT ALL night eye cream. It helps hydrate the under eye, helps reduce puffiness and dark circles, while also reducing crow’s feet and fine lines. It’s pricey for how small it is, but it LASTS FOREVER because of how little you need to use. I learned a tip that you can also apply any leftover eye cream to your upper lip — as that skin is similar in thinness to the under eye skin and shows your age faster than the rest of the face!
STEP SIX: MOISTURIZER
I started using SkinCeutical’s Triple Lipid Moisturizer when it launched back in 2017 and it’s been my go-to nighttime moisturizer ever since. If you’re looking for an anti-aging moisturizer that’s hydrating without congesting the skin, this is it! Essential lipids and vitamin E packed, this helps with skin elasticity, overall skin moisture levels and skin radiance.
STEP SEVEN: FACE OIL
A step I only use in the winter time, but adding a drop or two of face oil locks everything in overnight and my skin feels extra hydrated in the morning! I love this Josie Maran 100% Pure Argan Oil — I can also use this on the backs of my hands, my cuticles and the ends of my hair so it’s an amazing product to keep on hand. I also love the Drunk Elephant Marula Oil as well!
STEP SEVEN: LIP SERUM
I never forget my lips when it comes to my skincare routine and love these little capsules from Rodan and Fields — they help with wrinkles, fine lines and overall dryness! I actually split a capsule and can use it two times, so I make sure to save it for the next night or give the rest to my husband!
STEP SEVEN: LASH SERUM
Lastly, I follow up with this Rodan and Fields Lash Boost a few times a week to help grow and maintain my lashes! I started using this back in December and quickly fell in love — it’s a cult favorite for a reason!
OTHER PRODUCTS I ROTATE IN AS NEEDED
Retinol :: A few nights a week, I’ll skip my full routine and just add a pea sized amount of SkinCeuticals Retinol 1.0 to my Triple Lipid Moisturizer. Retinol helps produce cell turnover which is great for the complexion overall. I love that this line offers different strengths that you can work to build up — I started with the 0.5 and now am working with the 1.0, but they now make a 0.3 very light version!
Exfoliator :: When my skin is feeling congested or I’m feeling breakouts coming on, I love using this goop Instant Facial. I will typically use this after cleansing and gently exfoliate, leaving in on for a few minutes before rinsing off and following the rest of my routine. I also love using SkinCeuticals Glycolic 10 overnight cream for a gentle exfoliation overnight. When using this, I skip the rest of my routine entirely and just apply a thin layer to my face and neck. Once dry, I’ll follow up with my moisturizer (if I’m feeling dry).
For Blemishes :: When I’m feeling really acne prone (usually that time of the month), I love adding in SkinCeuticals Blemish and Age Defense serum to my problem areas — usually my chin and in between my eyebrows. It helps keeps acne under control and almost minimizes any breakouts before they even happen. I used to experience painful cystic acne for years and this is a go-to product!
